It was my birthday this week so I hope you’ll forgive me for not posting as usual. It’s been busy - a birthday lunch with family on Tuesday and a garden trip with a special friend on Wednesday. Oh, and breakfast with the bees! Making the best of the glorious weather, I had a birthday breakfast outside, seated by the ceanothus in the company of a million bees. Their presence, often unseen, was palpable, not least for their humming chorus, though I don’t think they sang, happy birthday!
Apart from birthday celebrations, I have been at work non-stop as the final proofs of The Silent Women, are fixed - nearly there! Ready for a cover real and pre-order in approx two weeks.
On that note, among the very best of birthday presents, this much valued reviewer’s personal response to The Silent Women:
‘It is absolutely brilliant! Totally absorbing and so beautifully written it takes my breath away. Your characters are right inside my head, and the way you describe the brutality, inhumanity and injustice of their treatment is so perfectly judged it is impossible to not be there with them & feel their rage and pain. I love that it is also about the power of words and of writing, take away that means of expression and we are impotent. Also I love that, above all, it is about love and sisterhood and community among totally dispossessed and forgotten women. So many resonances.’
Thanks for reading
